A deputation from the # Associated Chambers of Commerce has interviewed Mr. Cecil Raikes, Postmaster-General, requesting a reduction in colonial postages, and urging that a portion of mail steamers' subsidies should be defrayed from the defence estimates. Mr. JRaikes, in reply, said whilst foreign Powers were willing to sacrifice their postal revenue in order to extend their trade, British trade and commerce, did not require such support. However, he hoped that he would shortly be prepared to recommend a reduction in postage rates on Australian seaborne mails.
