CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
[by telegraph.— own correspondent.] , Cambridge, Wednesday. The Cambridge Borough Council met last night. Present:—The Mayor, and Messrs. Priestley, Webber, Ferguson, Clements, and Bond. Mr. G. E. Clark applied for permission to remove a building erected by him on the foreshore, as there has been a long-standing dispute over the question of rent, etc. A committee, consisting of the Mayor, Messrs. Priestley, Clements, and Bond.were appointed to look into the matter, and report to the Council. It was agreed to allow the Rink Club the use of the Public Hall for the ensuing season for 14s each night used. The Mayor said that having seen from a report of the Waikato County Council proceedings that|the chairman had written to Mr. Whyte about the £72 alleged to be owing to that body, he had drawn his attention to the other side, and sent him a copy of the award of the Controller-General, which was a final and conclusive adjustment of accounts as between the Borough and the Council. A reply was received from Mr. J. B. Whyte to the effect that the facts of the case so far as he understood the same would be fully and fairly placed before Government for their consideration. Some surprise was expressed by councillors that Mr. Whyte should have dealt with the matter, as it was simply a dispute between two local bodies A communication was received from the Waikato Hospital Board notifying a levy of £78 as the share to be paid by the borough. It was resolved to at once pay £49 on account. The defaulters' list was laid on the table, and in order to secure the full amount of subsidy it was decided to at once sue fourteen whose names appeared on the list. The Finance Committee were instructed to attend to the mattfer of suing owners of unregistered dogs. Messrs. Bach and Richardson were appointed to ascertain the owners of land adjoining Btreets where furze was allowed to spread. Accounts amounting to £61 were passed for payment. This concluded the business.
