A LONG IMPRISONMENT ENDED.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. John McKenzik Macdonald, prisoner in the Terrace Gaol, who has served 17 years' penal servitude, has been released from custody on account of enfeebled health through old age, and on the certificate of medical authorities. Over 17 years, ago Macdonald set fire to a hotel in Wanganui, and a lodger was burnt to death in the building. He received death sentence, but this was afterwards commuted to penal servitude for life. Several attempts have since .been made to get remission of his sentence, but without avail. _
