THE MAROTOTO GOLDFIELD. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Paerqa, Friday. Messrs. Robson and Moore, of the Ohinemuri County Council, who have been interviewing the Hon. Mr. Mitchelaon at the Thames, inform me that that gentleman is strongly in favour of the purchase of the Marototo goldfield from the natives, and although it is not in his Department, he will yet do his utmost to further matters to that end. [by telegraph.—owh correspondent.} Thames, Friday evening. Sharemarket.—Cambria, 8s 6d, 8s 7d, sellers 8s 9d ; Manukau, la Bd, Is 10d, sellers 2s, buyers Iβ 9d; Alburnia, 3e 3d, 3s 9d ; Paroquet, 3s 6d, 4s 3d. Prince Imperial — 28oz retorted gold from 46 loads quartz. The hangingwall leader is worth about loz to the load. The Paroquet mine, Waiomo, is under offer to Bydney capitalists. The Bank of New Zealand purchased 4402 oz gold last month. Mr. Molloy, M.P., is to deliver a lecture on the hydroden-amalgam process at the School of Mines on Monday The promoters of the Newbery-Vautin process commence preparations on Wednesday next. MINE MANAGER'S REPORTS. Cambria. —The drive west on the main reef at No. 3 level holed to the drive that was put in on the main reef from No. 7 drive. When breaking down the main reef on the western side of the break this morning, 51bs of picked etone came to hand from the hanging-wall portion of the reef. When the reef in the drive on the western side of the break is ehot down I would recommend that a rise be put up on the main reef on the western side of the break. Saxon.—The hangingwall reef in the drive towards the Trenton boundary is split into thiree parts, each from three to four inches thick. Colours of gold are freely seen in two of them, but the country ig much disturbed. Gold is seen in the third atope here also. No change has taken place in the stopes on the footwall reef since my report, and No. 1 winze is as reported. Four or five pounds of picked stone was got to-day in back stope above No. 3 level. A crosscut has been started at No. 3 level hillward of the second break, to intersect a leader which I believe to be in the wall, and at the same time to get mullock to fill in the stopes below. Amalgam to date, 1235 ounces 15 dwts. The mine manager telegraphed yesterday s— "Twenty pounds picked stone hangingwall leader, "No. 4!" New Alburnia.—The mine manager telegraphed yesterday:--" 201bs picked stone from leading stope, No. 2 hangingwaJl lode battery level. F. Jobe'e return is 1940z gold from 18 loads." Kenilworth. —A meeting of the shareholders of this mine was held on Thursday af ternooni in the office of Mr. J. Young. Mr. Gorrie was voted to the chair. The business of the meeting was confined to the granting of authority to the directors to sell the mine to the beet possible advantage to a Melbourne syndicate. A motion to the effect that the required authority be given, was proposed by Mr. J. F. Clark, and seconded by Mr. J. Jackson,' and carried. The prospects of the; Kenilworth mine are at present very encouraging, according to the appended report received yesterday from the resident director at the mine:—ln accordance with instructions, I forward herewith, per s.s. Kotuku, one package containine aDout 1001b of ore from the low level. This stuff is an average sample taken by myself from a heap of eecond-cfass ore, comprising about 10 tons, and upon which the tributere place a value of £30 per ton. . They have, also, a good-sized parcel of first-class ore, which shows gold freely. In the love , level going south of the winze, coarse gold is freely visible from top to bottom, and appears to improve, going downwards. Within the last few feet of driving stone has been broken out showing metallic silver freely. Shepherd and party are now driving both ways from the bottom of the winze in their section, and the auriferous matter averages six inches, and affords prospects equal to ft battery return of fully So* per ton. Goldwater Mine.—The ore shipped by the Tarawera on Thursday for treatment at the Australian Smelting and Refining Works was, we are informed, taken from the Goldwater mine, not the Paroquet. Telephone.—At a meeting of shareholders in the Telephone Gold Mining Company, Coromandel, held yesterday, in the office of Mr. J. Fγjar Clarke, Insurance Buildings, Mr. J. M. Lennox presiding, the following resolution was adopted, on the motion of Mr P B. McDonald, seconded by Mr. R. C. Carr —" That the Telephone Gold Mining Company (Limited) be wound-up voluntarily under the provisions of the Companies Act, 1882, and that Mr. Joseph Friar Clarke be, and he is hereby, appointed liquidator for the purposes of such winding-up. . An extraordinary meeting of the company will be convened to confirm this resolution.
