DEATH FROM SMALL-POX. Sydney, April 6. The child reported a few days ago to be affected with the small-pox, died of the contagion to-day. No fresh cases have been reported. A COSTLY FORT. Melbourne, April 6. The erection of a new fort at the entrance to the harbour has been commenced. It is expected that it will take eight years to complete the work, and that the fort will cost half-a-million of money. A YACHTING PARTY DROWNED. Melbourne, April 6. It is now considered certain that the yachting party which left the port on Monday last on a fishing excursion have been drowned. A passing boat's crew state that they saw a yacht caught by a squall and capsized in the harbour on that day. SYDNEY OARSMEN. Sydney, April 6. . The New South Wales eight leave for Victoria to-day. The team is not considered so strong as former crews. VICTORIAN FARMERS AND RAIL. WAY FREIGHTS. Melbourne, April 6. The Farmers' Protection Association passed further resolutions demanding a substantial reduction on the railway freights, and urging the Government to introduce a selected class of agricultural labourers and domestic servants.
