PRINCE BISMARCK.
REPORTED RESIGNATION. EXCITEMENT IN EUROPE. [press association.] Berlin, April 5. Persistent reports are being circulated to the effect that Prince Bismarck, fearing that Russia may take umbrage at the projected betrothal of Prince Alexander of Battenburg to the Princess Victoria, daughter of the Emperor, has tendered his resignation as Chancellor of the Empire. Another statement is to the effect that Prince Bismarck merely contemplates resigning in consequence of continued ill-health. JBoth statements are guardedly denied. Queen Victoria favours the marriage, and it is understood that her contemplated visit to the Emperor is in accordance with her expressed desire to be present at the betrothal ceremonies. London, April 5. There is' great excitement all over the Continent in consequence of the rumoured retirement of Prince Bismarck from the Chancellorship of the German Empire.
