In the Manchester Health Lectures for the people, Dr. Ranxonie, Chairman of the Committee Manchester and Sulford Sanitary Association, contributes a lecture Oil "Soils* and Sites," and quotes approvingly the opinion of Dr. Buchanan, Chief Medical Officer to the Manchester Local Government Board, that " Wetness of Soil is the cause of Phthisis (i.e., consumption), to the population living upon it." Hβ also endorses Dr. Haviland's opinion that " Damp Soil is coincident with a high mortality."
