BOROUGH OF NEWMARKET.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting oJ the Newmarket Borough Council was held last evening. There were present: Mr. W» Morgan (Mayor), Messrs. Bishop, Hogg, Wyman, Whisker, Rose, Kent, Burgess. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Mayor stated that Mr. C. S. Ambury had been appointed to represent the boroughs of Newton, Parnell, and Newmarket at lv ie Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. A circular was received from tne Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, showiinc the contributions allotted to the various boroughs, that of Newmarket being £69 Us 2d, and asking payment of the same. Received. The town clerk, Auckland City, wrote disclaiming any liability by the City iin regard to the drain along the railway line. It was stated that a nuisance had irisen through the action of the City Council in not completing this drain, and it was decided that the City Council be asked to nominate two members of that Council to confer with two councillors of Newmarket upon the nubject. Sir G. M. O'Rorke wrote stating his willingness to inspect the railway crossuig at Newmarket in company with the Council, in order that, steps might be taken to have its defects remedied. Received. A letter was received from Mr. M. Sullivan reminding the Council of a resolution to make the footpath at the corner of Burke and Eden ■ streeto. It wss agreed that the work be done as soon as the corner allotment was fenced by the owner, Mr. Pierce. The tender of Mr. Charles Neal, £8 17s 6d, was accepted for the works agreed to be done in New-street. The question of the nightsoil contract was brought under discussion, and it was decided that each householder in the borough receive a notice stating the intention of the Council to compel the providing of proper receptacles and closets by the householders. The Finance Committee recommended a number of accounts for payment, which were passed. This was all the business.
