McArthur and Co. write :—-In your remarks last week on Tonga, statistics. you could not understand why Lisbon should appear as the chief port to which shipments were exported. This is simply explained that Lisbon is generally the port of call for orders, owing to its being convenient if the vessel should be ordered to Marseilles. Your remark re the Germans employing larger vessels is hardly correct; p. 3 nearly all oar copra vessels of late have been Germans, so that the number of vessels clearing—German or English— does not represent the actual trade of the German and English firms.
