ASSAULTING A CAPTAIN.

At the Police Court, to-day, Joseph Pallant, master of the brigantine Linda Weber, charged his mate, James Bramston, with assaulting him. . From the evidence, it appears that Bramston was engaged for six months in Auckland two months ago,. After that the relations between the two men grew unpleasant. Bramston complained that he never had a dry bunk, and that the skipper was always nagging at him. He applied at several ports to be reliever' f his engagement, but was refused. Thu morning he again asked to be relieved, and was refused. Hot words ensued, and th e captain, was struck, falling against tnc table and severely cutting bis eye. The Bench fined Bramston £2 and £1 6s costs, or seven days. Bramston asked for an order of discharge from the vessel, but the Bench could make no such order, and to escape going on board the vessel the mate agreed to go to prison. ;
