[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] THR RUBY MINES. Sydney, March 13. Companies are being formed to work the Poolamacca ruby mines in the Broken Hill district. The stones are small, but larger ones are expected to be found. BURKE AND FOLEY. Sydney, March 13. Burke and Foley have been bouna over to keep the peace in a bond of £100. During the hearing of the case it was elicited that the projected match was abandoned three weeks ago, and both men protested against the bond, but without avail. COAL IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. Adelaide, March 13. Application has been formally made to the Government for the reward of £10,000 offered for the discovery of a payable coalfield. The discoverer claims to have found a rich seam of anthracite near Mount Pleasant, 35 miles northeast of this city. FRENCH PROCEEDINGS IN MARE. Adelaide, March 13. Information has been received from Mare, one of the Loyalty Islands, by the Rev. Mr. Jones, which states that the French have erected two prisons, and are incarcerating all natives who refuse to join the French Church, and. are rewarding all those converted to* the tenets of that body. THE HORSE MANGE. Sydney, March 13. Mr. Stanley, secretary, states that the horse mange is contagious, and that it is very difficult to eradicate. THE LOCOMOTIVE CONTRACT. Sydney. March 13. The Sydney Morning Herald states that the manufacturers have to reject the locomotive contract, as it is im-' possible to accept it except at a loss. A QUEENSLAND CONTINGENT.' Brisbane, March 13. A Queensland contingent goes to the Melbourne Exhibition, provided Parliament consents to troops leaving the colony. THE FEDERATION LEAGUE, i' Hob art, March 13. It has been decided to form a branch of the Imperial Federation League here. THE WEST AUSTRALIAN CONSTITUTION. Perth (W.A.), March 13. The Legislative Council are considering Sir H. Holland's dispatch respecting a representative constitution to this colony. It is understood that the House will reject the proposals, and demand a new constitution without limit or restriction. INCREASED DUTIES. Melbourne, March 13. The woollen manufacturers are ask ing for increased duties on imported goods. WORKING MEN'S COLLEGE. j Melbourne, March 13. Twelve hundred and fifty students have joined the Working Men's College. THE NEW HEBRIDES. Adelaide, March 13. The Rev. Mr. Jones has received letters stating that more of those expelled from the New Hebrides have left for England lately. TELEPHONE IN NEW GUINEA. Brisbane, March 13. It is proposed to establish telephonic communication with New Guinea between the various mission stations. GOLD YIELD. Brisbane, March 13.
