« [press association.] FATAL TRAMWAY ACCIDENTS. Sydney, March 12. Two fatal tramway accidents have occurred recently. In one case a man and his son were standing on the step of a car, when they were knocked oft by coming in contact with a telegraph post on the road to Botany. The father had his brains knocked out, and the son was internally injured. In the second case a woman stepped in front of a motor at Newcastle, and was cut to pieces. She was somewhat deaf, anc it is presumed did not hear the approach of the engine. THE NEW HOUSE DISEASE. Brisbane, March 12. The new horse disease has been pronounced not to be contagious, and is due to heat and damp. THE SYDNEY IRONWORKERS. Sydney, March 12. The manufacturers intend to ask the workmen to consider the Government locomotive offer, as they can only be taken up if the men consent to a reduction of wages. The ironmasters offer to be content with 5 per cent, profit, and make the engines for £3263 each. On a former occasion the men refused to make a reduction of wages. THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION. Brisbane, March 12. At the instance of the Queensland Commissioners, it has been decided that the New Zealand and Queensland ferneries, to be displayed at the Melbourne Exhibition, shall be in uniform glass houses. THE NEW HEBRIDES. Sydney, March 12. The Union Company have agreed to run a steamer to the New Hebrides regularly. REDUCING THE HOTELS. Melbourne, March 12. Under the new Licensing Act the poll demanded by the residents of Port Melbourne resulted in a majority of 81 in favour of a reduction in the number of hotels by one-half. SHIPPING. Sydney, March 12.
