The attendance was very good, though the weather was cold and bleak. Owing to the death of the German Emperor, their Excellencies the Governors and party were not present. In one race Tetford ran against a post, and his rider, Carey, was somewhat bruised ; whilst tho Auckland jockey Morrigan was thrown in another race and severely shaken. The well-known Wellington racehorse The Shah, having passed the post in a race in which he competed, suddenly faltered, and dropped dead. The Shah was tho property of Mr. J. Saunders. The racehorse Tetford will return from Wanganui by Tuesday's steamer. A Melbourne cablegram announces that tho Hon. Mr. Mitchelson's colt Escutcheon will return to New Zealand in a day or two. Donald Taylor left last week in order to accompany tho horse on his voyage.
