THE WAIHI GOLD MINE,

Wellington, Monday. Mr. J. W. Walker, well known on all the goldfields in New Zealand, returned from England in tho steamer Rimutaka. Mr. Walker has just succeeded in floating a company in tho London market, to work the Waihi mine at Waihi, on tho Ohinemuri goldfields, Upper Thames, and he comes entrusted with ample capital and necessary authority for commencement of operations. Machinery of the most improved description h-is been purchased for use in connection with tho mine, and the first instalment will arrive by the s.s. Coptic a fortnight hence. Mr. Walker loft for Auckland to-day. He considers that the success of this enterprise will have a powerful influence upon the future mining operations of the whole of the Hauraki dis trict. Wellington, Monday. Mr. Gordon, Inspecting Engineer of the Mines Department, left for Nelson, en route for tho West Coast and Otago goldfields this afternoon. Mining Machinery fob the West Coast.—Mr. E. Brook Smith, the New Zealand representative of Ball's patent dredger, returned from London by the Rimutaka last night, bringing with him the plant ordered by Oka'rito (loldmining Company some months ago.
