PRESENTATION AT MANGERE.
A soiree in connection with the Mangere Presbyterian Church was held in the Mangere Hall on Tuesday evening, February 21. Tables were liberally provided by the following ladies, viz. Mesdames J. Massey, junior, J. Anderson, J. Scott, junior, F. Wills, Smith, senior, Massey, senior, Lambourne, and McCrae, the hall being filled, and the tables fully seated three times in succession. After tea, the meeting was held in the church, which was crowded to excess, seats having to be placed up the aisle. The Rev. T. Adams occupied the chair. Instructive and interesting addresses were given by the Chairman, the Rev. R. Bavin, and Mr. W. P. Hunter. Vocal and instrumental music was contributed by the Onehunga and Mangere choirs, assisted by several friends. A solo, " Consolation," by Mr. Moslem, of Onehunga, and a duet by the Misses Lambourne and Rennie were highly appreciated. During an interval in the programme the Chairman, on behalf of the members and friends of the congregation, presented Miss Anderson (who for a considerable time has assisted at the harmonium) with a handsome inlaid writing desk, and a copy of " Church Praise," the new hymnal. In making the presentation the Chairman took occasion to refer to the approaching departure of Mr. James Anderson, who is leaving for the Waikato, mentioning how deep and widespread was the feeling of regret at his removal. Mr. Anderson has resided in the district for the last twenty years, and during that time those who have known him longest and best, will say that he has been a most energetic-and self-sacrificing worker in the church, and hia departure will cause a break which it will be difficult to fill. A vote of thanks to the ladies, speakers, and singers, proposed by Mr. James Robertson, ana the benediction pronounced by the Rev. R. Bavin, brought a very agreeable meeting to aclose.
