London, February 23. The weekly return of the. Bank of England, published to-day, shows the reserve in notes and bullion to be £15,600,000, being an increase of £416,000 on last week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 47 per cent.
The quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,690,000 quarters, and for the continent 170,000 quarters. The market rate of discount is 1$ per cent.
London, February 22. The weakness in prices at the closing of sales of the wool auctions is attributed to political disquietude in Europe, and also that many of the outside markets are now supplied direct from the colonies.
London, February 24. A thousand quarters of Australian wheat have been sold at 30s.
[PER N.Z.L. AND M.A. CO., LIMITED.] London, February 23. Frozen Meats.The mutton market has a hardening tendency, and stocks are decreasing. New Zealand mutton, weighing per carcase 60 to 651b, is worth 4|d per lb ; New Zealand lambs are worth per carcase 6*d per lb.
