THE GOLDFIELDS.

[from our OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Thames, Friday. There is very little mining news stirring. As for the Cambria and Saxon, I could only go over the same ground as the mine managers' reports published two days ago.

The most encouraging feature in the Cambria is the better progress being made by the low level tunnel, although there are still 200 feot to go. I nover did hold out any hopes of the mineral in the main reef developing into specimens upwards, but there is a good chanco of a patch at No. 4 level.

In the Saxon two winzes are to be started at . No. 4 level. It will yet be discovered that I did not offer bad advice when advocating crosscutting. The time which has elapsed without a cleaning upnearly two months—is almost unprecedented. Manckac.Colours of gold are seen in the stones on No. 5 lode, and the quartz should be of payable quality. Mulligan's leader ought soon be to hand. Crushing has not yet been started. Albcrnia.—The manager has his eye on a leader being worked in Jobe's tribute, which may prove valuable to the company, as the ground is unlet above the tribute. Prince Imperial. —A little gold is now being seen in the stopes.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Thames, Friday. Sharemarket.—Cambria, sellers, 6s 9d • Manukau, sellers, Is 7d ; Moanatairi, sellers, 12s 6d ; Caledonian, buyers, Cs ; Maroto to, buyers ss; South British Insurance, 42s 6d.

A load of quartz from the Walkover claim, about a milo on the Thames side of Waiomo, yielded 2oz 4dwt gold, worth £3 158 per oz.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. New Manckah.—The mine continues to look very well. Good payable dirt is coming •to hand from the stope "on No. 5 lode and branch lodes, the same showing a little gold when being broken down. The drive to cut the 'Mulligan lode is now in 30 feet, in good country for gold ; and the lode should bo in hand some time this week, when I hope to be able to report gold. Trenton.—The drive on the reef is now in a distance of 165 feet from the Saxon boundary, 13 feet having been driven during the week. A scam of clay .about four inches in thickness crossed the drive and cut off tho reef 10 feet back from tho face, but the reef was picked up again through this clay seam, and it is now going on its regular course. It was eighteen inches in thickness where it was picked up, but it is only about eight inches now. In tho face the quartz is 01 a rubbly nature, and no gold has been seen in breaking it down. The country in the face of the drive continues good. Tho leading stope in the break has been extended twelve feet during the week. There is no change here. The second stopo has been commenced" near the Saxon boundary. There is a width of three feet here, with stringers of quartz in which gold is seen freely through in breaking it down.
