ONKHUNGA KACING CLUB'S SUMMER

MEETING. The summer meeting of the Onehunga Racine; Club was held on Saturday afternoon, and although the attendance was rather limited, the races went off very euoceßsfully, and afforded a good afternoon's sport.uo serious aooidents occurring to mar the enjoyment of those present, and with the eingle exoeption of not being able to run the races to time, the officers were suooesaful in affording goneral satisfaction. Mr Frank Lawry, M.H.R., presided as judge, Mr Owen McGee as starter, Mr. Joseph Ohadwiok ae clerk of the course, Mr. John Rowe as olerk of the soales, and Mr. T. O'Sallivan ae seoretary. The weather was fine but very warm, and the want of an awning over the grandstand was much felt. The Onebuuga Naval Band performed a number of musical selections during the afternoon.

The following are the results of the races : Novel Rack of SOsovs. One mile. Weight, Sat 71b. The winner to be the property of the olub.

Mr. Brown's br m Briseis (Fletcher) .- 1 Mr. C. Clarke's bg Welcome Joe (Peareon) .... .-• •"• * Mr. French b m Luna (Stone) ... .- o Signa, Dan, Sir Bedevere, and Dragoon also rau, and Boomerang was soratohed. There was no betting in the paddock, but Briseis was favourite on the maohine. -Welcome Joe went off with the lead at the start, followed closely by Luna, and Dan was last to get away. At the back of the aourse Bnseis came up with Welcome Joe, and in a very exciting raoe home won by half a length, Luna being a good third. Totalisator : 16* subscribers ; S3 on the winner ; dividend £1 15a. The wiunor was put up for saie by Mr i'onks, and was bought in for the owner at £12.

Handicap Hurdle Rack of 40eovs., second horse to receive s*ovs. from etakes. Two miles, over eight flights of hurdles, 3ft 6in high. Mr U. Gallagher's gr g Peter Oebeok, list 101b (Hope) 1 Mr W. T. Carr'a b m Coral, 9et 101b (Collins) 2 Mr H. Simeon's oh g Kangaroo, 9et Gib (including Gibs over, Maher) 3 Shotover, Pipi, and Quilp were scratched. Kangaroo was served up a warm favourite. Coral was the first to show to the frout, but the pace was alow, and Peter Osbeck taking a moderate position in the rear, the other two went together to the back of tho course where Kangaroo was taaen to the frout but soon surrendered the premier position to the mare whioh led paat the stand the second time and to the back of the coarse, where Kangaroo was again iu front by half a length, and Peter Osbeok was three leugtha away in the rear. The pace was then increased for tho third rouud, and at the back of the course Hope touk Peter Osbeck up to the leaders, and passed them in the home turn, winning comfortably by a length while the favourite, whioh was ridden desperately at the finish, was more tbau a length behind Coral. There was £342 on tho totalisator, 110 on the winner, aud the dividend was £215 a.

Onkhonga Cop of 75sovs, second horse to receive ssovs from stakes. Distance, one and a half miles. Mr. J. Carnegie's ch m Lioness, 6st 71b (Mobley) 1 Mr. W. Robertson's oh m Leorina, 7st4lb (Ratterne) 2 Mr. T. Hedger's br in Antelope, Bst 71b (Morrigan) ... ... ... ..■ 3 Britannia and The Cat also started. Clogs, Capella, Miis Alice, and Lady Alice were scratched. Antelope and Lioness were nearly equal favourites, with the former for choice. Leorina was the first to show to the front from a very fair start, with Lionesa second, and The Cat last. When the baok of the course was reached, Leorina was still in front, but all the others were close up in a cluster, but in the next round Lioness took command, and coming away at the finish, won easily by two lengths, a similar distance separating Leorina and Antelope. Selling Hurdle Rice of 40sovs. One mile and a half, over eix flights of hurdles; weight, 9it 71b. The winner to be the property of tho clnb.

Mr. J. B. Williamson's ch g Wideawake (Stone) - 1 Mr. Wileon'e b g Evening Star (Fergus) 2 Mr. bonaldaon's bmPi pi (Collins) ... 3 Wideawake watt the favourite on the machine, and he with hvening Star led over the firet hurdle, and they raced together round the course where Pipi was a length behind. After the rirst round all were under the whip, bat the favourite came away and won easily by six lengths. Kvening Star finishing two lengths in tront of Pipi. There was £112 on the totalieator ; 60 on the winner. Dividend, £1 13*. The winner was bought for £21 by Mr. J. McGee.

Selling Kaoe of 40«ovs. One mile. Weight for age.

Mr. W. Robertson's b mCapella, 6*t 131b (Katterns) 1 Mr. K. Millen'a b g Tupaki, 6st 131b (Danton) 2 Mr. J. Alwell'e oh rn Britannia, 6st 111b (Shaw) 3 Mayflower (6at) alao ran. Tupaki led at first, but was collared by Capella at the back of the course, and the mare coining away, won easily by six leogths. There was £346 on the totalieator, 194 on the winner, and the dividend was £1 12:!. The winner was bought in by the owner for £45.

FiYiNG Stake.-*, being a lady's bracelet of the value of lOeovs, the gift of W. Adams, Esq., with 20sovs added. Three-quarters of a mile. Mr. W. Kobertson'u br m Capella, 7«t 71b (Katterne) 1 Mr. J. Alwell'e oh f Haricot, 7at slb (Williams) -. 2 Mr. U. Hen wood's br ti Cateaby, 7st, and sJlb Ofer (Dureton) « 3 Lcorina also ran. Capella and Haricot out oat the running from the start, but the mare won at the finish by a length and a half. There was £309 on the totalieator, 103 on winner, and the dividend was £2 14s.

Handicap Stekplkchase, of 65sove, seoond horse to receive ssovs from stakes. About three miles. Mr. T. W. Carr's b m Coral, 9at 71b (Collins) 1 Mr. W. Brown's br g Falcou, list 21b (Rae) 2 Mr. Donaldson's b m Fipi, IDst (Fergus) 3 Magnesia (10*t s!b), Tawhaio (9at 121b), Kangaroo (9at), and Patchwork (9at) also ran. Shotover was scratched. A vety good start wae effected, and Magnesia at once went to the front and out out tue running, but they were all together at the first hurdle, which they cleared in splendid style. Fussing the stand Magnesia was in front, and held that position to the back of the course where Falcon and Kangaroo closed on ber, and the trio took the doable jump almost abreast. Emerging again into the couree proper, Magnesia was still in front, and all the horses were going well and jumping splendidly. On corning the eecond time to the double jump, Falcon rushed to the front and cleared the fences a length ahead of all the others, the whole of them except Patchwork, who was four lengths behind, being almost together. On the third round, Magnesia and Kangaroo fell, and when the horses entered the course for the last time Coral led by two lengths, Falcon being seoond, and Pipi third. Kae, on Falcon, rode a desperate race at the finish, but was unable to catch Coral, who won comfortably by two lengths, Pipi » fair third. There was £462 on the totalizator, and the eubatautial dividend of £12 12s was paid to the inventors on Coral.
