AUCKLAND INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION AND "WAIKATO PARMER."
AAViI mii/ TTaiiXAIV £AXVJUi]iA* TO THE KDITOB. Sir,—A leliter appearing in your columns of the 9th instant, over the signature of '*! " Waikato Farmer," contains a direct challenge to me its the accredited war correspondent" of the, above Association. The opinions I expressed in my letter of the 26th ultimo, at which "Fanner" appears to have taken such umbrage, were open to » contradiction; ant\ if my statements were not approved of by "Farmer," surely, sir, he might have had the courtesy to contradict those statements, without showing palpable ignorance and vulgarity, in endeavouring to prove his faootiooßness, which, in the end, amounts only to insolence and stupidity. . "Farmer" questions my manliness. When he becomes manly enough to place bis signature at the foot of his compositions, I shall then deal with that subject; and if he wishts to argue the question in a gentlemanly manner, as to whether Frsetrade or Protection will best assist the farmers generally, I shall be glad to prove any statement) I have made. In conclusion sir, let me state that if "Farmer" had ccn*> Bidered my letter before writing, he would have at once seen that it was submitted as a report to thlti Association; and Farmer" would have much better employed his time, if he had attacked the Association as a body, without injuring his cause by becoming bitterly ironic (?) and abusing me.— am, &0., Edw. S. V. Mowbray, Sec. Auckland Industrial Association. January 12, 1888. [«• Waikato Farmer" brought forward facts and arguments What his real name is has nothing to do with the validity of these, and ought not; to form an excuse for the Secretary of the Industrial Association not ; answering them.—Ed.]
