Puriri.—The county engineer reports as follows re the recent find :—"I have visited the new find in the Puriri Creek. The prospects are very good, but the leader or leaders upon which work is being done are very small, varying from two to six inohes. This portion of the country has never been prospected before, and the prospects obtained are sufficiently good to justify farther prospecting, and the making of a pack track forgetting the quartz to a battery for treatment. The loader or leaders show good prospects for a length of 250 feet, which is about the distance prospected up to the time of my visit." It is reported that the Trenton has bought the Moanatairi Extended winding plant, the prioe being £500.

[by telegraph.— association.! Hokitika, Thursday. Farther sinkings on the William Tell reef, Czar Creek, are now in process. The reef shows great improvement in the quality of the stone as It goes down. A large piece of stone, weighing about ten pounds, taken haphazard from the bottom, when broken open was found to hare gold well distributed throughout. It is estimated to yield from 12oz to 20ez per ton. The mining manager reports that he has now payable quartz in sight for three years work, and every foot sunk in the winze increases this. The company have resolved to at once arrange to get machinery, but there is great diffioulty in getting to the site, owing to the failure of the Government to complete a dray road. About £3000 has already been expended, and it only requires £3000 more. There is great excitement in the district over the encouragi»g prospect. Blocks and leases are still being taken np. The first party will be in working order withln a fortnight. The new workings at Tucker Flat, Kanaori, are extending. Probably a large area will be found payable.
