GOLD DISCOVERY AT KATIKATI.

A few weeks ago Mr. Marten, one of the settlers, announced that he had discovered gold on hia land, and in order to set the matter at rest, has since then forwarded a sample of the " stuS" to be analysed in Auckland. Tho metal (whatever it may b»), is of the proper colour, and plainly visible in the soft sandstone, which exists in groat quantities on Mr. Morton's property. After so many disappointments of late, however, wo have coma to look upon all so-called gold discoveries as delusions and snares, and bat little excitement has been manifested in this rumour of wealth in our midst. With the Waltoa fiasco still green, we find it difficult to believe that a bona fide discovery has been made, although fully alive to tho fact that a find of tho precious metal would mean better times for everyone.—[Own Correspondent.
