THE ASSOCIATION MATCHES, H What turned out to be a beautiful' d *■ favoured the Auckland Cricket Assoouti** if for their matched on the Domain ground v I terday. The pitohes were, however, not I to expectations, and the bowling bumd ? I ? good deal, while the attendance was on * [1 moderate, no doubt on account of \\? 1 oounter-attraotiona, but amongst those ß l i 1 ; sent was His Worship the Mayor. In th* 1 Eleven v. Sixteen there were, when ol I began, about eleven o'clock, several absent &? i ' on both sides, and emergencies and subitituf 8 I filled the gaps. Yates captained the ele»e I while Mumford skippered the juniors Jh' i batted first for a total of 108. N. Willi* (23) and H. Thomas (20) showed good £ I for their runs against the bowling o{ th I Mills brothers, the hitting of the Gord man being especially good. The eleven did not start well, and wicket after wicket fell ' before the attacks of Stemson. Testro (291 1 however, put a front upon matters by hi 1 ' usual tactics, and he and Yates, who went i in late, were a long time together. E. Mill played steadily for 10, the innings producing I 76 or 32 behind the sixteen. Time was called I when the nondescripts had three wickets down for 26 in their second innings, T. Keill bein» I not out. The play on the whole was not no to expectation, mainly because the principal advocates of the match were absent I Beside those already mentioned, Morrison' 3 of the A.C.C., and Hawkins also bowled the* 1 latter making his debut among seniors 'and 1 with coaching should give promise of bowline talent. The fielding on the whole was n D to par, only one or two difficult catches being refuged. Auckland is again in want 0 ? a decent wicket-keeper. It seems & pv that one of our rising juniors is not taken in hand and coached for this position, n , j scores were as follow — -

The A.C.A. junior eleven v, next eighteen (selected from the second junior clubs) was also played on the Domain. Not a very great amount of interest was evinced in this match. The eighteen put together 62 in their first innings, and the eleven replied with 96, of which Service (24). Wright (22), A. Rows (12), and E. Mell ill) scored best When the stumps were drawn the eighteen had lost 13 wickets for 43 In their second venture. To ascertain the strength of the juniors both individually and colleotively it would seem from yesterday's display that it would be far preferable to have the match upon a day set apart to it, or that a team of juniors be pitted against a senior eleven.
