The petition adopted by a majority of tk® meeting last weak, re the modification or repeal of the Thermal Act, having been on re* consideration, deemed by many objeotionable, as recommending only leasehold tenure and other matters, another meeting was held on Saturday night for the purpose of amendiug the objectionable clauses, and further ad' journed until last evening, when the B ®* #r amended clauses were adopted. Other clauses were dropped, and one or two new ones were finally adopted by the meetingFreehold tenure was almost unanimously approved, as being the most effective induce* ducement for European settlement, the area to be limited, in order to avoid the whole** acquisition of extensive tracts of country to simple speculative purposes, and alternate sections to be opened for lease only. 48 permanent provision for the native ownersInquiry into Rotoraa Affairs generally *» also petitioned for, with a view to obtain tn objects petitioned for in the interests 0 Europeans, and the native inhabitants of M Lake districts, so long handicapped by t stringent provisions of the Thermal Act, an protracted delays in deciding the title by w» Native Lands Court.
