ROYAL OAK GOLD MINING COMPANY AND ITS MANAGEMENT.

TO TUB KDITOK.

Sir,— mast apologise for again trespassing on your space, as I wish to say a few words in reply to " Shareholder's " letter in your issue of the 26th ale. His allusion to my "hackneyed complaint" anent anonymous writers amused me immensely, especially his comparison of himself with Junius" a -renowned anonymous _ writer of his day. If it were possible for that writer to read the correspondence in this case, I am afraid he would say (so far as " Shareholder" not disclosing his name is concerned) " save me from my friends," for "Junius," in his writings, was trying to redress great national wrongs, which it would have been impossible to have done in so easy and plain a way as " Shareholder " could, viz , by attending annual meetings of shareholders and ventilating the matters he thinks require explanation, alteration, and improvement. I stated in my previous letter that the office of the company was in Auckland over two years, and few enquiries were made daring that time as to the position of the company's affairs or what was being done at the mine. As to the interest of the directors in this company's property, I may mention for the benefit of " Shareholder " and others, these gentlemen hold just one-third of the shares issued. For my part, I prefer that the office should be still at Coromaudel, as in my experience the shares of most gold mining companies managed in Auckland are more frequently used for the purpose of " balling and bearing " the share-market. However, if at a meeting called for that purpose, the majority of shareholders are in favour of removing the office to Auckland, I must bow to such a decision. My only wish is that the mine may be profitably worked, so that shareholders may reoeive some benefit for their capital invested, and also show a little more interest in the mine when doing "uphill work," as well as when there is a prospect of a dividend.—l am, &0., F. Woollams. Coromandel, August 4, 18S7.
