TRADE WITH INDIA.
direct STEAM SERVICE.
A PROMISING ENTERPRISE [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Wednesday. The Te Kapo will leave here about the 10th of this month direct for Calcutta with a cargo of horses, and will return with a cargo of Indian produce. Your readers will probably be aware that hitherto horses exported for the Indian Government were sent to Sydney, and transhipped at that port into a steamer proceeding to the Indian capital ; in the same way New Zealand people used to get much of their Indian produce by the double voyage from Calcutta via Sydney. I consider this the commencement of what is likely to be a most valuable trade worthy of special attention just now.
