The battles fought on Monday were the toplo of conversation on the streets yeuterday. ihe Chrietohuroh Tramway Company have arranged to run cheap trips during the summer to the sea beach at Scunner.
Mr. Lnndon, at the Bay of Islands election, polled exactly the tarns number of votes aa that scored by Mr. Shera at City West. To-day i> the great fast d%y—the day of Atonement—with onr Jewish fellow citizen*. The fast is from last evening until this evening at seven o'clock. The Uiaborne Standard says that the Wi Fere party are about to make an attempt to upset the reoenfe eleotion of Mr. James Carroll on the score of alleged bribery and corruption. At a late meeting of the Dunedin Jubilee Hortiuultural Society it was reported that fifty special prizes, averaging over a guinea, had been promised. The show dates were fixed for Daoember 9 and March 2.
A petition, signed by 143 persons, having been presented to the Colonial Secretary against granting a charter to the proposed Working Men's Club at Newtown, Wellington, the Colonial secretary haa determined not to grant the charter.
