THE BIG PUMP.
[BY telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENT, J Thames, Monday. The Minister of Mines promises £2000 towards the Big Pump, when £2003 worth of material for converting the motive power from steam to water has been contracted for.
Cambria.—The mine manager reports :— There is a small stringer, in which gold was seen, crossing the crosscut at No. 3 level, and striking in a sonth-wenterly direction. This crosscut is still going through a splendid class of country. 1 have started driving west on No. 6 leader. This requires to be done so that it can be carried up in the same stope as No. 5 leader. The two leaders are close together in the stope at this point. Dabs and colount of gold were seen through the quartz when breaking down No. 6 leader west to-day. "New Fearnought. The mine manager reports : For the past week the ground in the face of the crosscut has been considerably harder than the two previous weeks. Within the last two days a quartz stringer, two Inches in width, has been cut through containing some nice looking mineral ; beyond this there is no change to report up to the present. Three feet have been driven for the week, making the total distance of crosscut S5 feet.
Dhbbo.—The mine manager sent the following telegram yesterday :—"2£ tons 71 ounces, 21s per ounce ; No. 2, 60 ounces 233."
Saxon.—-The mine manager telegraphed yesterday: — " Forty-five pounds picked stone from bangingw&ll portion of reef, hill ward end No. 3 level."
