THE MAORI PERJURY CASE.
The charge of perjury against a native named Hoera te Mimiha was brought to a close at the Supreme Court yesterday evening. Mr. O'Meagher and Mr. Cotter, the counsel engaged is the case, having addressed the jury, His Honor Judge Ward summed up, and at twenty minutes to seven o'clock the jury retired. After an absence of nearly two hours they returned with a verdict of "Guilty." Mr. O'Meagher then asked the Judge not to call upon the prisoner, as he (Mr. O'Meagher) intended to make an application for a new trial, on the ground of the improper admission of an affidavit. His Honor agreed that the case should stand over until noon to-day, when be will hear Mr. O'Meagher's application.
