LUCAS CREEX.

It is the intention of the committee and friends of the local branch of the Blue Ribbon Army to recommence regular meetings at an early date. I hear on good authority that the Volkner Deviation Road, which has caused the local Road Board and the County Council so much trouble of late, is to be put to tender afresh. In the meantime the settlers have to be at the inconvenience of conveying their goods by a bad and circuitous road, while the main country road, which is straight, remains impassable. It is to be hoped the Council will lose no time in calling for fresh tenders, for settlers oannot put up with the present track any longer. There oan be no excuse for further delay now that the spring has set in. .

The Council should have the tea-tree and gorae cleared and the road re-formed from Mrs. Phillips' residence to the first bridge near the schoolhouse, as this part of the road is all in holes and ruts, Oar settlers should agitate to have the hill in front of Mrs. Phillips' cut down and the bridge raised. This is a work which badly wants attention, as the present catting is altogether too ateep, and has been very boggy for the last two winters.

Judging from present appearances, the time is not far distant, when the s.s. Gleaner will have to run twice a week to keep pace with the traffic. Last week she was unable to carry all her cargo, and had to make a special trip for the remainder.

Some party or parties seem to have a par tiality for other people's property. One of our settlers has had one hundred weight and a half of barbed fencing wire removed from his paddock lately. The same gentleman has been very unfortunate, having been the viotim of these nightly marauders on several previous occasions. The last time he had a large number of pines taken. It is to be hoped that the thieves will be caught and brought to justice. Have both the aspirants for parliamentary honours forgotten us ? We have not seen either of them. When are they coming to favour as with their respective views on the political crisis T—(Own Correspondent. 1
