SIR GEORGE GREY'S ADDRESS.

A committee meeting of Sir George Groy's friends and supporters was held yesterday evening at Mr. John King's offices, New Zealand Insurance Buildings, to make, arrangements for I is "Grand Old Man's" address to hi;i City East constituents next week. Mr. J. M. Shera was unanimously voted to the chair. Mr. Shera explained that £8 Sir George would arrive next Monday it would be necessary to have the meeting at an early date. He also thought that a deputation should be appointod to meet the veteran statesmac on his arrival. It was intimated that the Mayor would willingly preside, but owing to the projected meeting being an address from a representative to hie electors he thought it better not to take the part which Sir G. Grey's friends wished to assign to him on the occasion, The meeting, whilst expressing regret at tho Mayor not being able to take the chair, nevertheless agreed that the course mentioned was the most politic. The whole of the gentlemen present resolved to meet the member for City East on reaching Auckland. After som9 discussion, it was agreed that the meeting of the electors to hear Sir George Grey's address be held next Friday night in the City Hall, at eight o'clock—that being the most spaciouß and central building for the convenience of all classes of the community. It was unanimously resolved, " That Mr. George Fraser, of Messrs. Fraser and Tinne, should be chairman, and that the moving and seconding of a vote of thanks and confidence in Sir George should be entrusted to Mr. Thomas Gee and Mr. Henry Keesing respectively. A sub-committee, consisting of Mossrs. George Fraser, J. M. Shera, J. Mason, and J. King, was elected to complete all necessary details for the meeting. The secretary was also requested to get telegraphio advices from Gisborne as to the hour when the Mararoa leaves that port on Sunday morning. The dress circle, as on all previous occasions, will be specially set apart for ladies and their escorts. Special cards of invitation for admission to the platform will be forwarded to the members of the Legislative Council and members of the General Assembly in the Provincial District of Auckland, representatives of public and other bodies, as wel) as to the most prominent electors of Auckland Ea3t. The sub-committee will do everything possible to make the arrangements for Sir George Grey's political gathering a complete 3uccese. The occasion itself will be a most important one, as it in expected that Sir George will propound a policy in connection with the forthcoming elections all over New Zealand.
