« FEILDING JOCKEY CLUB'S ANNUAIj MEETING. The annual race meeting of the Feilding Jockey Club took place on Easter Monday and was a great euocesa, between 1300 and 1400 people attending, and the business dona on tbe totalisator by Messrs. Adams and Andrews, of Auckland, was very good, the respectable sum of £1810 being put through daring the day. Handicap Hurdle Race of 40aovs; two miles and a distance, over ten flights of hurdles.—Mr. D. Thurston's b g Reform, 9st, 1; Mr, L. Hulme's br m Mamingo, 9sfc slb, 2 ; Mr. J. G. Wilson's ch g Doctor, 9st, 3. The Druid (10st 61b) also ran. Won easily by three lengths. Dividend, £2 14s. Hack Hukdle Rack of lOsovs ; one mile and a distance ; five flights of hurdles. VV aitangi, 1; Kararoa, 2; Lucy Long, 3. After Dark also ran. The race lay between the two first, but Waitangi won easily. Dividend, £1 Ss. Maiden Flats of 25sovs; one and a-hal£ miles.Mr. G. This was a splendid raoe, the lead being taken by Tongariro. Goth soon caught him up, and for about three-quarters of a mile they ran ueck-and-neck, after which Goth fell back, the pace proving too hot for him. The other two were in close company to the finish, when Stiletto gamely won the prettiest race of the day by a length. Divl> dend. £8 2s. Hack Race of lOsovs; once round the course; 9st up.—Promotion, 1; Fern Flats, 2; Little John, 3. Several others started, and the race, which proved a very interesting one, was won by a length. One mile and a quarter :—Tongariro f ; Goth t ; Hagar, 3. This race, which proved a very exciting one, resulted in a dead heat between Tongariro and <>otb, and the dividends were £1 9s and £2 15s. Later in the day the tie was run off, and ToDgariro won, after a close contest, by a neck. Sklling Race of lOsovs, once round the course.Shadow, 1 ; Moonstone, 2 ; Black Tinker, 3. Won by a length. Nominations for the Great Northern St. Leger Stakes of 300sovs, and the Northern Champagne Stakes of 300sovs, to be run at the Auckland Racing Club's Autumn Meet* ing of 1889, are due to-morrow (Friday). The Albert F.C. will hold their first practice match of the season on the Domain, on Saturday next, when all members are requested to turn up at the Hollow. Teams will be picked upon the ground. The sports of the field and turf are fully chronicled, and attention is devoted to the pleasant and interesting games of chess and draughts. As a family journal and general newspaper the News ranks equally high, and the greatest care is exercised to maintain the wholesome tone and .character of its reading matter—nothing that is offensive to good tasts or cherished convictions being admitted to its columns. It contains a weekly history of the news of the world, and special contributions on a wide range' of subjeots, from the facile pens of accomplished writers. Its serial tales are of absorbing interest, and are contributed by some of the foremost novelists of the day.
