New Prince Imperial,— mine manager, under date Thames, 4pril 9th, 1887, writes aa follows :—The contrsctora have now extended the eastern driven No. 1 reef at No. 2 level a distance of thirty-five feet. The reef whioh was broken down to-day is much larger, but ia not/looking quite so well, being more mixed tp with tno hard bastard quartz. This is omsed by the hard nature of tho ground through which the reef is passing. I expect tiff country will soon change again for the betier. In the stopea there is very little charge to report; the third stope is along f6:ty feet, and the flat head is still running alrug with it. No gold has yet been seen abore this head, but the lead is carrying up through it all right. The fourth Btopo has been extended a distance of twelve feet; the quirtz waa broken down ' here to day, and, altlough some really good j mineral was Been through the stone, no gold 1 was visible. Two pen have been employed in the stopes above, No. 3 levol vacated by the tributers ; good looking quartz is being obtained here, ami some nice dabs of gold were seen in breaking down. The reef here is about fifteen inches thick, and should it continue of the sine favourable nature as at present, I would propose starting an intermediate, say, fift; or sixty feet below No. 2 level. There arc now twenty loads of quartz in the hoppers,/sud about tifty-five pounds of specimens aid picked stone on hand, which 1 propose to commence crushing in a week or ten da/s.
