TRIAL OF SHEEP DIP.
u , There was a good attendance at Tahuna Park c J on Thursday to witness the trial of the sheep 5 dip manufactuoed by Keuipthorne, Prosser, c 1 and Co., which they have recontly introduced (. ' under the name of " Zealandia sheep dip." , There is no reason why so good a dip should not ' I be made in the colony as out of it, and if the . : successful trials held count for anything, this ' 1 preparation will be found to equal anything of the £ kind hitherto in use. The proprietors claim that ( it not only eradicates lire ticks, destroying them c ' and other insects in all stages of metamor- 1 phoaes as well as in the egg state, but is a speoi- ] ' lie for scab, and also promotes the growth of the j wool, which it enriches and renders more luxu--1 riant. The sheep that were operated upon were ' selected in consequence of being in rather » ' dirty condition, and the ticks on them were in ' the beat of health and spirits till they were put 1 through the bath, and then " the subsequent 1 proceedings interested them no more.'' Messrs. < Kompthorne, Prossor, and Go. call their dip a non-poisonous one, but if it is so it has a most I pernicious effect on insect life. Each sheep was , in the bath for less than half a minute, yet when they were examined a minute or two after, no live insect was to be found on them. The company appear to have got hold of a real good thing ; and as the virtue of their dip becomes more widely known, it will, doubtless, supersede many of the preparations which are at present in use, and should also command a sale in the adjacent colonies. An industry of this description should have every encouragement, because it requires no " protection" from the State, but " protects" itself by reason of its own inherent virtue, and the force of its own merit,—Daily Times, April 2,1887.
