LORD DEERHURST AND THE BOOKMAKER.

The appeal instituted ly Mr. Sutton, the Melbourne bookmaker, against the sentence of 14 days' imprisonment passed on him by the Melbourne City Benci some weeks ago, in the case of Sutton v. Detrhurst and Deerhurst v. Sutton, came on fot hearing on the sth instant, before the Criminal Court. The excitement over this mattor vas intense, and the Courthouse wa3 crowded to excess, while a large number of persons congregated outside. Judge Cope occupied the Bench. Lord Deerhurstdid not put in \q appearance. Mr. F. Gavan Duffy appeared for the appelteut, and spoke strongly of the absence of Lord Deorhurst.
