RE JUBILEE CELEBRATION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Would ifa be worth your advooacy that at least one feature iu the above should be.the expression of sympathy with " distress and sorrow " that some poor creatures, subjects of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, ehould have reason to remember with gratitude the "Jubilee" of their Queen? Could not one or more prisoners from each gaol in New Zealand be released ? Men or women who are really deserving, "not pet prisoners." Then again I would suggest, give every des» titute sick person a gold medal bearing Her Most Gracious Majesty's image — viz., a sovereign. Again, provide a good dinner for every destitute person, oe indeed for all who cared to accept charity, especially as there will be many who can ill afford to lose the pay that the day's holiday will in so many cases entail. Again, let the inmates of all prisons, gaols, asylums, &c, have grauted to them some special mark of favour, to be decided upon by their respective officers. And again (and here I must stop), let all the children under 12 have provided for them a feast, and be presented with a medal bearing the likeness of their Queen with an inscription which in after years would remind them of Her Majesty's Jubilee.—l am, &c, Sympathy.
