[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Hamilton, Wednesday. A MEETING of intending members of the Infantry Rifle Volunteer Corps was held last night in the Public HaM. Sixty members were sworn in. The election of officers was then proceeded with, when the following were elected :— Reid, captain ; J. Kdgecumbe, lieutenant; J. Coombes, second lieutenant; W. Kelly, colour sergeant; G. White, G. Pearson, T, Connolly, and Joseph Qinton, sergeants; G. Cornish, lance sergeant ; Coop, Barwell, McGnire, and Burke, jorporals ; and Pearce, lance corporal. Drill nights were fixed for Tuesdays and Thursdays, commencing to-morrow. The funeral of Mr, Simpson took place this afternoon on the arrival of the midday train • from Hamilton.. A Masonic funeral was accorded the deceased, he being S.D. of Lodge Alpha, Cambridge. The Lodge met «it half-past one, and at half-past two formed a procession to the railway station. On the ; arrival of the train a procession was again formed in the usual order observed on such occasions. There was a large number of members of the craft, considering the short notice given, whilst the number of carriages and horsemen which followed the hearse was unprecedentedly large, thus testifying to the universal respeot in which the deceased was held. On arrival at the grave the Ven, Archdeacon read the burial service of the Churoh of England, and on its conclusion Brother W. W. Sargent read the Masonic ritual, and the ceremony was gone through according to ancient custom. Mr. T. B. Lewis was chief mourner, and Mr. Edward Lewis, of Auckland, was also present, and numerous gentlemen from Hamilton, . .
