DR. POSNETT'S CUP.

TO THE EDITOR. 2JSIB, —As Hon. Secretary to the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, I beg to b« allowed to say a few words with reference to Mr. J. R. Reed's letter which appears in your issue ' of to-day. Shortly after receipt of Dr« Posnett's letter desiring, as one of the Vice-• Presidents of the association, to offer a cup to be won in single-handed game by any* gentleman member of an associated club, I pointed out to him the inadvisability of presenting it through the association, when he: immediately withdrew bis letter. He now. intends to give the cap to the winner of the; best six lawn tennis players in Auckland, [ and, although the matches will in no way be,' conducted by the association, there la no rea~> son why the tournament should be the leas! interesting. Thus it will be seen that Mr.' Reed is premature in saying that " we, who, are only just struggling into the confidence of' clubs, are talking of trying the anomaly of having two champions."— am, &c., E. P. Hudson.
