NEW ZEALAND INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
Meetings of sab-committees of the above were held yesterday afternoon, at the office of the secretary, Mr. C. D. Whitcombe. At the meeting of the Tariff Sub-committee, it was decided that the secretary should prepare and issue a form of application to forward to all manufacturers and producers in the Auckland district, with a view to obtain information relative to alterations in the tariff, readjustment of duties, and other subjects necessary to guide the association to the attainment of the object it has in view. The Exhibition Sab-committee decided to hold an Exhibition of Local and Colonial Industries and Products, which is to be opened on the 7th of May, in Mr. Bell's extensive premises in Wyndham street. As a preliminary step notice is to be generally advertised, and circulars sent to manufacturers and producers throughout the district, calling attention to the projected Exhibition, and requesting that applications for space may be sent in to the secretary as early as possiblebefore the 15th March next. It has been decided not to charge for apace at per foot, but to make a charge not exceeding ten shillings (10s) on each exhibitor, irrespective of the number of his exhibits, and subject to the allocation of space by the Exhibition Sub-Committee. A long discussion took place on the desirability of employing a paid lecturer, and it was deoided that Messrs. T. Bell, Brame, and Cranwell should act as a sub-committee to endeavour to raise a sufficient guarantee to subsidise a paid lecturer to visit the country districts and explain the objects of the association, with a view to extend its influence, and increase its membership. It is believed that the exhibition in May will be largely supported, and will tend largely to increase the consumption of local manufactures.
