Hamilton, Thursday. As a result of the do-nothing policy of yesterday's meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board, the Chairman, Mr. W. A. Graham, sent in his resignation by letter to-day to every member ot the Board.

A presentation of a purse of sovereigns was made to-day, on behalf of the principal business men and settlers, to Mr. Matthews, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, on leaving for a six months trip to England for his health. A large number also assembled to take leave of Mr. Bright, manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., on his removal to Auckland.

New Plymouth, Thursday

The body of a man wai found this morning on a heap of stones near the Waiwakaiho river. Deceased had been employed stonebreaking. He was lying face downwards on the metal, apparently having fallen. His bag, bread, and billy of tea were on either side of him, as if they had dropped from his hands. The bag contained his daily damper, which was very solid and indigestible in appearance. Deceased was 45 years of age, and had a wife and family. An inquest was hold this afternoon, when the medical evidence showed that deceased had died through tho rupture of a blood vessel. The inquest was adjourned to obtain further evidence.

A fatal case of sunstroke is reported to have occurred at Opunake.

Wanganui, Thursday. The School Committee have resolved to resign in a body.

Messrs. Hazell and Hodgkin, the delegates from the Immigration Bureau, have been prosecuting inquiries here. A deputation of the unemployed interviewed them last night. To-day they visited the various factories and other institutions. They leave probably on Saturday for Wellington. A difficulty has arisen between the Auditor-General's Department and the Harbour Board, in consequence of the Board preferring to let their accounts be audited as hitherto, instead of allowing the Government auditor to perform the duty. The seoretary of the Board is threatened with serious penalties, though he did no more than point out to Mr. Jameson a resolution passed by the' Board to the effect that accounts should,, in their opinion, be audited as in previous years. The difficulty appears to have arisen through an Amendment Act providing for a new audit while not repealing the former Act,

Oamaru, Thursday.

A man named James Sparrow died suddenly on board the s.s. Wainui, on the passage from Dunedin, yesterday. Dunkdin, Thursday.

Heavy rain fell here this morning, but in the afternoon the weather cleared up, and it now promises fine.

The Dock Trust have received no information as to the movements of Mr. Elder, who went to London to float a loan for the construe tion of the new dock. The general belief is that the mission has not been successful. The loan was one against which the Chamber of Commerce protested so strongly.

Isvekcargill, Thursday.

There was a very heavy rainfall last night. The weather is unsettled, and is interfering with harvesting. The wheat and turnip crops are the best ever seen here.
