AUSTRALIA V. AUCKLAND. The third match between Auckland and a representative Australian Eleven was commenced on the Domain Ground on Dec. 6 under most favourable auspices as regards the wea, ther and the state of the ground. The attendance was moderate, there being about 1000 on the ground late in the afternoon. The Australians winning the toss went in first, and the inning, which produced 104 runs, closed about four o'clock, after batting for three hours and a quarter; The Auckland team then went in, and when the stumps were drawn for the day, had scored 63 for the loss of eight wickets. On the second day there was an attendance of about 2000, which was a marked improvement upon the previous day. The wicket was again in capital order, and played even better thin on the first day. Auckland, in their first innings, had lost 8 wickets for 63 runs, and the not out (D. Lynch and Kissling) resumed the play. The feature of the innings was the splendid display of Lynch, who gave the best exhibition of cricket ever Soßn on the Domain, and scored 46 runs, which is the highest total ever scored against the Australians during the three visits that have been made to this colony. So consistent was his play that there were 10 consecutive singles, and played maiden after maiden till, the luncheon adjournment, and saw upwards of a dozen men depart to the pavilion. The interruption for luncheon seemed to have had a bad effect upon the local men. as Lynch was secured off Garrett immediately after resuming, and with O'Brien away very little resistance was offered, to the "Sydney bowler, who succeeded in tumbling down no less than seven wicksts at a small cost; and at three o'clock the Auckland innings closed for 114, being tsn runs a-head of the Australians. The visitors then went it:, and at the closc of the day had scored 98 for the loss of one wicket.

The match was' resumed on the Bth December under most favourable weather indeed all through there has been most exceptional weather for the wick6t. The attendance was about 1,800. On Tuesday evening when play ceaßed the Australians' second innings stood at 98 tor one wicket, and Palmer (50) arid Trumble (15) continued their innings. Palmer by a tine batting display raissd his score to 72, when he was well caught in the long-field, and Trumble was caught after increasing his score 31. Bruce made a good stand for 27, and Evans, by careful play, put 26 together before he was caught. The innings produced 225. Auckland requiring 216 to win, started their second innings very disastrously, and. had no loss than 15 wickets down lor 44 when play stopped. Brans and Spofforth were in rare form with the ball, and did almost what they liked with the Auckland batsmen. The match was drawn, bat it can not be said that it was in favour of Auckland, although they were 10 runs ahead on the first innings. The scores were as follow : —
