STORTING.

AUCKLAND SUMMER MEETING. TRAINING NOTES. Trainers were again favoured with another beautiful morning yesterday, and those who had paid a visit to the course wit* nessed some most interesting work. Before daylight had made its appearance Chaafe had Kingfish out, and the son of Piscatorius was sent a rousing gallop of a mile and ahalf on the grass. As the oolt oould only Ibe seen aB he flitted past, no line could be obtained as to the merit of the performance, but it had all the appearance of a fairly good go. Nelson put in once round at half-pace, when he rattled off another at almost top, moving throughout in great style. The two-year-old Cruobfield ran once round, finishing up fast. The son of Cadogan is no slow one, and moves very nicely when extended. Victoria (in sweaters) put in a good twice round, finishing strong. Disowned and Torrent then came on the track, and as both were stripped watches were soon out. Jumping off at about the mile and a half post they strode along at a great pace, completing the Derby distance, both colts moving in splendid style, though some thought Torrent had a bit the best of it. Fusillade was restricted to half pace work. Tetford ran twice round, the last time fast. The two-year-olds, Niagara and Bangle, went once round slow, when they broke away for a fast spin, both moving in great style. To judge from their performance, there appears little difference between the pair in regard to speed, and it will certainly take something very warm to silence them in the Midsummer Stakes next Monday. Derringer and Turquoise ran twice round at a good solid pace, both moving well, though I noticed that Chaafe still keeps the bandages on the former. Lady Norah went once round by herself, when Libeller and Silver Prince joined in at the mile and a-half post, andthe trio ran round again, the three-year-olds leaving the old horse in the ran home, and finishing up strong. Cinderella was restricted to twice round on the grass at half pace. Lochiel (with Rudings up) was sent twice round, moving very free, and appeared very anxious to get his head. Waitiri performed three circuits, moving{nioe and free. Friendship went once round by herself, when Tamora joined in and the pair put in a sharp bit of work over once round. Friendship's form was very different to that exhibited at Otahuhu on Saturday. had Catesby for a companion, and the pair put in twice round at three-quarter pace, both finishing home strong; The steeplechaser Jim, who has been under a cloud for some days, made his re-appearance, and put in three circuits at half pace. He moved sound, but I notioed that one of his legs was encased in a leather boot, while the other was bandaged. The Hon. W. Robinson, Mr. J. O. Evitt, and Mr. J. Pilbrow were passengers by the s.s. fiauroto, which arrived yesterday morning. THE BETTING. The prices were called over at Tattersall's last night, when some spirited speculation took place. For the Cup, Disowned was introduced into the market, 400 to 80 being written against him, and then 200 to 50 was taken, when 100 to 30 became the best offer. Waitiri then became the medium for speculation, 300 to 75 being taken. For the Derby, 6 to 4 was wanted about Disowned, while 100 to 8 was on offer for the double, Cup and Steeplechase. The following were the prices on offer for the Cup:— 100 to 50 agat. Nelson 100 to 40 Waitiri 100 to 30 —— Disowned 100 to 15 Lochlet 100 to 12 — Fusillade 100 to 10 Tetford 100 to 8 Turquoise 100 to 8 Victoria 100 to 8 Clogs WEIGHTS.
