SMOKING AND HEART DISEASE.

In a report by Dr. Frantzel, of Berlio, on immoderate smoking and ita effects upon the heart, it is stated that the latter show themeelvea chiefly by rapid, irregular palpitation of the heart, disturbances in the region of the heart, short breath, langour, sleepleanness, &c. Dr. Frantzel says that, if the causes of these complaints are inquired into, it is generally found that the patients are greet smokers. They may not smoke cigars rich in nicotine, but fullflavoured cigars imported from the Havannahe. Smoking, as a rale, agrees with persons for many years, perhaps for twenty years and longer, although by ddgreee cigars of a finer flavour are ohosen. • But all at once, without an y assignable cause, troubles are experienced Wl th the heart, which rapidly increase, and compel the sufferer to call in the help of the medical man . it u strange that persons consuming cgarß of ordinary quality, even L+f.
