WAIRATO COUNTY COUNCIL.

LBV TELKGIUI'U.—-OWN CORRESPONDENT. I Hamilton, Friday. The monthly meeting of the Waikato County Council was held to-day. Present: Mr. A. Primrose (chairman), and Messrs Runoiman, Smith, SeddoD, and Johnston. A letter was road from Mr. J. B. White, the member for Waikato, saying that he would endeavour to get the Government to put the crossing over the railway, as required. The Council declined the offer of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, that one of their number should become a member of the Chamber on the terms offered. The engineer drew attention that the Railway Department have considerably interfered with the Approach-road from the Main South Road to the coal mines, and have taken no steps to make a crossing; also i that complaints have been made of the 1 faultiness of the crossing over the Hantly Wharf branch line on the South Road, and that at least one accident has happened in consequence. The clerk was instructed to communicate with the Department on the matter. A petition from a number of Waerangi settlers re the state of the Waerangi Swamp Road. . Mr. Johnston said the road was impassable for three month n during last' winter. The work had been lot to a contractor some time ago, and the engineer was instructed to caution him to go on with the work at once. Objections to taking Mr. Ewen's land, to widen the HamiltonCambridge main road at Leslie's Hill, were heard. It was proposed by Mr. Seddon, and seconded by Mr. Runoiman, " That the land be taken," Mr. J. J. Smith moved as an amendment, " That the land be nob taken." Mr. Johnston seconded the amendment. For the amendment, Messrs. Johnatone and Smith; against, Meeere. Seddon, Runriman, and the chairman. Mr. Smith gave notice of motion for next meeting, "that the motion as passed to-day be rescinded." Mr. Peat's tender for dog collars, sixpence halfpenny each, was accepted. Two tenders were received for Matahura Road works : Rice and Littlewood (accepted) Is 3d per yard, and Owen and Churches 2s per .yard. Three tenders were received for bridges and culverts on the River Road : Davis and Way, Rice and Littlowood (accepted), and George Bel wood (informal).
