BANKRUPTCY.
Meetings of Cbeditobs. R. N. Hopkins.—Adjourned meeting of creditors. Present: The debtor, his aoli* citor, and a number of creditors. Mr. Williamson (on behaif of the debtor) pat in a trust deed of assignment of furniture, jewellery, &c, and the polioy of insurance there* on, made by debtor on July 19, 1877, in farour of his wife, and her brother (A. F. Strangman), being the trustee under the assignment. He also put in a formal claim to the articles enumerated in the schedule to the trust deed. Mr. Williamson stated certain articles so enumerated had been destroyed by fire and replaced. It was a question of law whether the replaoed good • could be claimed under the assignment. He believed the affirmative view could be sustained. On the motion of Mr. Williamson (for Mr. Lang), seconded by the same gentleman (for Lilewall Brothers), it was resolved. "That Mr. Strangman, trustee under a certain deed of settlement, having olaimed the furniture, household effects, and jewellery, whioh have been seized by the Assignee as assets in the estate, the Official Assignee take advice as to whether suoh olaim is valid and oan be supported in law, and that, if so, the said furniture, etc., be handed over to Mr. Strangman, as euoh trustee, and the bankruptcy closed." Mr. Harris, on behalf of Mr. Foley, dissented. The Assignee promised to call a further meeting if necessary. J. McLellan (First Meeting of Creditors). —Present: The debtor, his solicitor, an 3 several creditors. Iα the absence of the Official Assignee (at Hopkins' meeting), Mr. Lumpkin took the chair. The schedule of assets and liabilities and debtor's sworn statement having been read and discussed, during which it was understood that the ownership of the horses, seized under judgment, will be settled by the Court. On the motion of Mr. Lavere, seconded by Mr. Morgan, it was resolved, "That the creditors present sympathise with the bankrupt in bis misfortune, and have no wish to oppose his discharge." M. H. Kob (adjourned meeting of creditors). — Present : Creditors, Messrs. Browning (for A. Buckland), Binney (G. Binaey and Co.), and Ryburn (W. S. Laurie and Co.). This meeting was called for the purpose of considering the report of the committee. After the Assignee had explained the action the committee had taken.it was resolved, "that the Official Assignee proceed in winding up this estate and all preferential claims paid by the bankrupt be recorded, and that the bankrupt be summoned to attend a meeting of creditors, for examination, on the 26th October, at half'past two p.m. Petition Filed.—Arthur Robert Dendy, of Auckland, accountant and hotelkeeper, filed his petition in bankruptcy.
