Our Victoria Valley correspondent writes s —Things are en the way of improvement Id this locality. Mr. Lundon has been here on a lecturing tour, for the purpose of establishing village settlements in this quarter, but for some reason he has placed the site of his village on the top of one of the largest hills in the district. In Oruru he was less fortunate in his choice. I am afraid that the village settlement eoheme will prove a failure in this place, as the settlers are without capital, and there is no employment for them, as neither County Counoil nor Roai Boards have any money to spend on the roads, pending the result of the Loans to Local Bodies Act, which in this distriofe is almost sure to fail for the want of the required vote. It will be a great lom to this district if we cannot get our roada completed to either Mangonui or Awanui, as wo are situated between both placet, and the roada have been commenced at the port in both cases. There is a blank in the centre of levcral milei to be done vet.
