WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.
[BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPOND KNT.] Wellington, Tuesday. THE REPRESENTATION BILL. The member for Manawatu (Mr. Maoarthur) having shown to the satisfaction of his constituents that the Government (equally divided on this question) might, without incurring any odium for breach of faith, as the result of an adverse vote and consequent dissolution, have to go to the country on the present basis of representation, has elicited the following pronnnciamento from the ostensible organ of the Government:— " In the face of the many absolutely precise declarations made by the Premier of the intention of the Government to introduce and force through a Representation Bill as one of the Ministerial measures of next session, .we fail to understand Mr. Macarthur's apparent ignorance. Wβ should be the first to denounce the flagrant breach of faith which would be involved if under any circumstances the Ministry went to the country on the present basis of representation without staking their existence on a measure of redistribution. Mr. may make his mind easy on this point." UNIFORMS FOR PERMANENT MILITIA. Tenders are invited for the supply of the new militia uniform, to be sent in before the 29th instant. AMKRICAN AND EUROPEAN MAILS. The Hawea arrived from the Manukau at nine o'clock on Sunday night with the San Francisco mails. She was detained by strong S.E. gales. She left for Onehunga yesterday morning at six, to bring down the mail for the Ruapehu, which leaves here on Thursday.
