VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

♦ No. 2 Battalion.—An inspection parade of the No. 2 Battalion of the Auckland Garrison was held in the Drill-shed last night, when there was a good turn out of the various corps comprising the battalion, considering the inclement state of the weather. Lieut.Colonel Dignan was in command, and Major Isaacs acted as senior major, with Captain Clifton as adjutant. The totals were :—Victoria Rifles, 36, Captain Skinner, Lieuts. Self and Cooper; City Guards, 50, JLieute. Dormer and Shemilt; Hobson Rifles 25, Lieutenants Little and Dignan ; Queen's Own Rifles 30, Lieutenants Collier and Finlayson. The Garrison Band 18, under Bandmaster Morris, also attended. Major Isaacs took over command, and put the parade through a strict course of battalion movements, lasting upwards of an hour, after which the adjutant read out the district orders for the guidance of non • commissioned officers, and also read a communication from the Defence Office, Wellington, announcing that Major Peter Dignan had been raised to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, commission to date from October 7. The submission of a name for the vacant post of major of the battalion was asked for. The corps were then handed over to their respective officers, and the parade dismissed. Qualification for CAPITATION.—Under a new regulation just issued from Wellington, and which will come into force almost immediately, it is provided that to facilitate the qualification of corps for capitation, and in view of the increased number of inspect tions, attendance at encampments this year may count as two daylight parades. Hereafter it will be provided that only corps having the regulation two-thirds of their strength present will have the above privilege. On Saturday, the members of the Queen's Own competed at Mount Eden range for the handsome silver cup, presented by Lieutenant Collier, when Volunteer Anderson won with ft score of 30 points*
