THE EUROPEAN CRISIS.
FRANCE AND ENGLAND. [renter's cablegram.] ; Paris, October 17. The French Press, in replying to the recent articles in leading English newspapers, on the European situation, deny that France is seeking war and intriguing against England. They state the tendency of the French Government is towards peace, and that the armaments being attended to are merely defensive, and not offensive, measures. The newspaper Le Temps, in an article to-day, deplores the rivalry and jealousy of the English Press, and urges the journals in a serious tone to strive to improve the relations between England and France.
