CONCERT AT HENDERSON.
A very successful concert was given at Henderson on Tuesday evening. The hall was crowded, and the proceeds will considerably augment the school ground improvement fund. The concert opened with a pianoforte duet, The Messenger of Love," by the Misses Laurie and La Trobe, followed by the glee, Clasp hand in hand," by the Henderson choir. Mr. M. S. Laurie then gave the favourite ballad, "Alice, where art thou," in a finished manner, for whioh he received a round of well-merited applause. Mrs. J. Hepburn contributed the song, " When thou art near." The Henderson choir next gave the glee, "The Cuokoo," and the blending of voices displayed in this glee reflects great credit on the choir's instructress, Mrs. La Trobe. The first portion of the programme 'was concluded with the ballad, 41 Far away," by Mrs. A. Hepburn ; " Summer comes," glee, by the choir; and a duet, "Domestic squabbles," by Mr. and Mrs Beach. The second part commenced with a song by Mrs. La Trobe, " Children's voices," whioh was nicely rendered ; the chorus to this song was given by the choir from outside the hall, which feature had the merit of being both original and effective. Miss Duncan played a pianoforte solo. The Choir gave a glee, " Laughter," after which Mrs. Beach favoured the audience with a song, entitled the "Children's Home." Miss Laurie rendered "Take back the heart," very pleasingly, and was encored, as was also Mr. Beach's comit hit, "Just about the age." The song by Mr, M. S. Lawrie, "Sailing." deserves special mention. A pianoforte duet by the Misses Duncan and Hepburn, and the familiar selection from Wallace's "Maritana," "In Happy Mo. ments," by Mr. Milsted, concluded the concert. The instrumental portion of the entertainment consisted of piano, violin, and harp, which assisted materially in making the concert a thorough success. The arrangements reflect great credit on all concerned, and especially on the exertions of Mrs. LaTrobe, who is to be commended. Mr. H. Laurie acted as chairman. The whole concluded with a dance.
