ARREST OF A VETERINARY SURGEON.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Hamilton, Thursday evening. Sergeant Emerson arrested W. H. Jones, veterinary surgeon, at Te Aroha last night on the charge of passing a valueless cheque, purporting to be drawn on the Bank of New Zealand at Te Aroha for £6, by a person named McCaskell, whom he represented to be a Hamilton settler, and obtained £2 advance upon it. Tβ Aroha, Thursday. William Henry Jones was charged in the Police Court to-day, before Mr. J. F. E. Wright, J. P., with uttering a valueless cheque for £6 6s. Sergeant Emerson asked for a week's remand, which was granted.
